There are some great inexpensive pressure washers out there. If you are looking for a good unit to use around the house for small jobs like cleaning windows and possibly siding on a one story house I would recommend looking at a rac pressure washer. They are relatively inexpensive and can do a good job on some of the smaller projects you may have going on around the house. However this unit is not going to be great for large jobs such as pressure washing fences or decks. You will need a lot higher PSI unit to do bigger jobs.

The smaller units can be beneficial for around the house type jobs because a lot of the time you can find a small electric pressure washer. Again these smaller units are not going to produce the pure awesome cleaning power of say a 13 hp 4800 psi Troy bilt pressure washer that will rock and roll on any job.
These are more of an experienced contractors pressure washer. Having a unit like this increases your productivity 10 fold but keep in mind you do pay for it. Not only are you going to be paying more, you will also need to continue purchasing gas/oil/seals…. However having a unit like this can make you a lot of money if you wanted to start a pressure washing business. You can typically find pressure washing parts for these units a lot easier.
There are a lot of manufacturers out there so some pressure washer reviews may be needed in the near future. As long as you have a Honda engine and a CAT pump in my personal opinion you are golden. Just as any other piece of equipment if you keep up on maintenance it is going to last you a lot longer. And if you are running a pressure washing business than the longer your equipment runs the more money you make.
