Keep in mind that your pool decking needs to be treated or a certain material used so its not hot on your feet such as composite decking.
There are many different types of material available for decking you can use cement, tile, composite decking, stones, and even a hard plastic although it is not recommended as the life of plastic is rather short term. The great thing about these different materials is that you can find them in many shapes and sizes to include specialty designs and even colors to match your home. For the above ground pools you do neeed to take into consideration that there will need to be a ladder or stairs leading up to the pool. Now these can be added later if you prefer the plastic ones but the best above ground pool deck is going to be one that has stairs that wrap all the way around it almost like a gazebo.
We all have different taste in what we are looking for with our p0ool deck but one very important thing you need to keep in mind is that you need to make it slip proof as kids are going to be running around and horse playing on the deck. It is a lot better to take the time now to make sure your deck is slip resistant than to wait until someone gets hurt and it is too late. The only downside to this is once you add a non slip texture to your pool deck it is going to take away the smoothness of the deck and add a bit of roughness to the deck and to the bottom of your feet but again it is a lot better than slipping around. My personal recommendation is composite decking as it is weather proof, it doesn’t change colors, there is very little maintenance involved and also it is already made from a slip proof material. This composite decking is also going to last you a lot longer.
With some of these decking options you will have to keep up with maintenance especially with wood. But if you deside to go with the composite decking , aluminum decking, or even plastic decking you wont have to get out their and make repairs on your deck every summer. With these decking options your maintenance will be mostly spraying it off with a garden hose to keep it clean. I personally like the way wood looks but in the long run you will have to stay on top of the treatment of the wood and eventually replace some of the wood as it will decay and rot.
